The Boy Scouts of America - Aloha Council
The new 8,450 square feet Boy Scouts Headquarters replaced an aging and unsafe existing residence that had been modified over the years to accommodate the various activities of the Scouting program.
The project is located in an old and established residential neighborhood that references large historic homes with substantial vegetation. The design concept embraced the contemporary use of historic materials utilizing heavy timber construction with large open beam ceilings. The exterior treatment references historic lodge design with the wood siding being carried into the grand hall.
The Boy Scout Headquarters was awarded both a Design Honor Award and the Members Choice Award by the Honolulu Chapter of the AIA in addition to the Pacific and Northwest Regional Design Award.
